Kosciusko National Park

After working all through the Christmas and New Year holidays 08 / 09 we decided to take a long weekend off and take a road trip to Kosciusko National Park which is located near Canberra, the Australian capital. The trip to Jindabyne which is located at the Park entrance is about 500km from our home in Sydney and takes about 6-7 hours to drive there.

The the first day after arriving there we decided to do a walk up to the top of Mt Kosciusko (2200 metres altitude) which is the highest mountain of Australia. The walk took the whole day and was about 23km long. It turned out to be quite nice since the temperatures down in the valley were too hot (> 40°C) and up there we had about 30°C. The views were also stunning and we really enjoyed the walk (apart from the very last steep hill which we got chased up by horse flies!).

The second day, we drove a big circle through the National Park and really had a great time. On the third day we decided to drive back to Sydney via the (longer) coastal road. Overall we drove about 1300 km in 4 days but it was really worth it.
